I am a graduate of Berlin University Law School. During my studies there, I participated in a senior exchange year at Middlebury College, Vermont, where I studied American Law and American History, Thereafter, I deviated from an attorney's typical career by joining the Insurance Company of America (now CIGNA), transferring, in 1953, to the German branch of the Zurich Insurance Company. I served first as claims supervisor and from 1961, until my retirement in 1981, as a member of the Executive Board for Germany. Claims, however, always remained my favorite province.
My license was issued on February 1, 1983 by the Frankfurt Municipal Court covering the Areas of Civil Law (Sections 4 & 5 of the Civil Code excluded), Commercial Law, Corporate Law, and Insurance Law.
In the same year. I joined forces with Walther W. O'Haire, Esq., an American attorney of long standing who practiced in Frankfurt/Main, Germany. After his death in 1988, I continued as a sole-practitioner, exclusively counseling U.S. military and civilian clients and/or their stateside attorneys regarding claims against Germany-based defendants and their insurers – with particular emphasis on Personal Injury and Product Liability matters.
